Kalegard

How to play

The six things the game tells you, unchanged. It shows them inside the tutorial match on first launch; this page is for reading them first.

The game in six steps

  1. Your goal

Raise your castle to 100, or tear down your opponent’s. Both castles start at 30, so either road is open from the first turn.

  2. Resources

You have three producers: builders bring stone, soldiers bring swords, wizards bring crystals. Your vault fills by their count every turn, and every card you play spends one of those three.

  3. Play a card

You hold eight cards; tap one and it is played, and a new card takes its place. A card drawn faint means you cannot afford it yet.

  4. Swap a card

With nothing worth playing, press and hold a card: it is discarded and replaced. It is not free — the turn passes to your opponent, so you have spent a move.

  5. Defence and siege

An attack eats your wall first, and what is left reaches the castle. After move 60 the siege begins: on every move — every card played to the table — both castles take damage, and the winning threshold starts sliding down from 100.

  6. Rewards

Every match you win opens a chest: gold and card shards. Three chests a day, and which tier you drew stays hidden until you open it. A loss does not spend that allowance; it pays out consolation gold instead.

How one turn runs

A match is this loop, repeated. The siege is what ends it.

Flow chart: the turn begins and your vault fills; if you have a card to play you tap it, otherwise you press and hold to swap it and the turn passes. If your castle reaches the target or your opponent’s castle falls, the match ends in victory and a chest opens; otherwise the turn passes and the loop starts again. The easiest way in: the tutorial match

On first launch you do not read the rules, you play them: inside a real match a coach tells you what to do on the opening moves and why. When the lesson ends the match ends too and you are back in the menu. If you want a reminder later, the question mark in the top bar opens the six slides at any time.
